Compatible Ink Cartridges and Saving Money

By Mary Dolen

If you're like most people looking for ink cartridges, you've probably noticed that they are super expensive. A compatible ink cartridge can be hard to find sometimes. Many printers don't accept re-manufactured or refilled ink. Or if they do, they give poor quality results.

A small percentage of people who buy ink for their printers don't care about the quality of the job printed. If you're someone that doesn't care if their cartridge gives quality results, you plenty of low priced options to choose from. If you're like me, however, you can't settle with the most mediocre of cartridges. When choosing a cartridge to buy, you'll discover that the highest prices doesn't always mean the best results. There are many great solutions for ink that get you the same results as the name brand.

Refilling your ink cartridge yourself is one of the cheapest and most popular solutions out there. Instead of wasting money going to store and getting a new HP ink cartridge (or whatever brand you have) you can buy a kit to refill them. While a first time buyer for an ink kit may pay the same price as they would for a normal set of brand name cartridges, they'll get multiple refills out of one kit. So in the end, you end up saving a lot of money.

Having your ink cartridges refilled at your own home with a kit has its advantages and disadvantages. The number one pro is that it saves you tons of money per print. You can save almost 70% off the original price of a cartridge with refills. But besides saving tons of money, refilling doesn't have many pros. For cons, refilling is a very messy and at times--risky--process. Quite a few people ended up permanently wrecking their printer because of leaky ink refills. Because of ink's severe staining ability, you have to watch and make sure you don't spill on anything you want to keep unmarred. There has been a few cases where printers wouldn't print because of a refilled ink cartridge. So the final reason why ink refilling may not be the best idea is you can end up wasting a lot of your hard earned money if your printer doesn't accept the cartridge.

The best way to save money on your ink cartridges is through re-manufactured cartridges. Many local office stores and online stores sell this cartridges at prices much lower than the national brand name. If you don't want to deal with refilling cartridges yourself (something I highly recommend) and still want to save lots of money, buy re-manufactured cartridges.

There are quite a few office stores and other similar stores locally that can sell you refilled ink cartridges or refurbished ink jet cartridges. Locally, OfficeMax tends to have the best prices for ink refills and refurbished cartridges. If you're someone that needs their ink right away for printing, you can't get much cheaper than them (especially if you have coupons). If you're not in a giant hurry to get the ink for your printer, you can shop online for the best deals and the cheapest ink cartridges. There are many sellers who provide quality cartridges as very low prices. When buying ink online, you can expect to save over 60% on your ink compared to buying new name-brand cartridges locally. - 30529
